Norweigan’s Norse Atlantic Airways has launched flights from London Gatwick Airport to one of Africa’s most popular tourist destinations.

The flight to Cape Town in South Africa is the airline’s first route from the UK to Africa since it launched three years ago in 2021.

Flights from London Gatwick will depart at 8:30 am, arriving at the South African capital at 9:50 am the next morning, and return flights will leave Cape Town at 11:45 am, landing in London at 9:20 pm on the same day.

The service is operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the journey will take 11 hours and 35 minutes with return fares costing from £499 per person.

Only one personal item is allowed on board for those who opt for the cheapest fare, meaning those passengers would have to pay extra.

There are other options, such as economy classic tickets, which include a carry-on bag, checked suitcase and a meal service.

In the mood for an upgrade? Premium economy seats include a personal item, a carry-on bag, checked-in luggage, two meals, priority check-in and premium boarding, all costing from £1,199.

Flights to the beautiful city will be operating three times a week – every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Bjorn Tore Larsen, Norse Atlantic Airways Chief Executive, said: “By breaking the duopoly on this route, we are not only expanding travel options for consumers but also driving down costs and putting the customer back in the pilot’s seat.

“At Norse Atlantic Airways, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the wonders of the world, and our new route to Cape Town will allow many more people to visit this amazing destination.”

There are so many features that make Cape Town a great holiday spot. Last year, it was named the best value holiday destination for Brits and with temperatures reaching as high as 27C between November and January, it’s a great place for those wanting to escape the cold weather.
