Cage Warriors 172: James Power Makes Quick Turnaround

Must read

James Power is looking to make a quick turnaround. This is when he takes on Daniel Kolasiński this Saturday (25th May) at Cage Warriors 172.

James Power Making a Quick Turnaround Back

James Power will be looking to make it a quick turnaround when he steps into the octagon this weekend. This is due to Power having already competed this year back at Cage Warriors 168 on March 16th. James Power was able to secure a unanimous decision victory that evening. He will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins to increase his stock this weekend.

Power was able to go 3-0 as an amateur being able to finish all his fights before entering the 3rd round. Power was able to knockout two of his opponents one in the first round due to a head kick and the other coming 21 seconds into round 2. The other finish was a submission victory against Mikey Brown. All 3 victories came in 7 months between 14th July 2018 and 9th February 2019.

James Power then decided to turn professional and was able to get a first-round knockout against Shaun White. This was in the first round in his pro debut. This fight allowed him to set up a fight against Liam Delsol. Power was once again able to secure the first-round finish due to ground and power. Power then got another first-round knockout against Marc Halford which saw him get a contract with Cage Warriors.

The Journey to Cage Warriors 172

James Power made his Cage Warriors debut against a fellow up-and-coming prospect Adam Shelley at Cage Warriors 140. Powers was able to get the victory that evening being able to finish Shelley in the 2nd round due to knees and punches. James would return 12 months later when he faced Łukasz Kopera at Cage Warriors 152. Kopera wasn’t able to make it to the 3rd round and retired on the stool which allowed Powers to go 2-0 in Cage Warriors both victories coming due to a knockout.

However, Powers would go on to suffer his first defeat when he went over to fight Michael Pagani. Pagani was able to defeat Powers that evening by unanimous decision and gave Powers his first defeat of his career. However, Power would return on the Cage Warriors 168 card in Manchester against Gianluca Rocca. James Powers was looking to get back into the win column. Power would end up being successful in getting the victory due to a unanimous decision. This has set up this clash this weekend. Power’s will be hoping a win this weekend will get him a fight against a top contender. This is due to there being much competition in the lightweight division.

George Hardwick is the current title holder and was unable to take on Lucas Clay due to injury in training. Cage Warriors could rebook this fight to happen which could see Power having to take another fight before a title challenge. Another fighter who could challenge for the title is Mason Jones. The former UFC fighter is currently 3-0 since returning to Cage Warriors. If Power is able to get a victory against Kolasiński he will definitely increase his stock and could set up a number one contender fight in the future.

Cage Warriors 172 Card

Cage Warriors will be stopping off in Newcastle this weekend (25th May 2023) where we will see a new featherweight champion crowned. Harry Hardwick will compete in the main event against Orlando Wilson Prins for the vacant strap. Harry Hardwick was suppose to face Zafar Mohsen. However, due to Mohsen having to withdraw Orlando Wilson Prins stepped in after his opponent for the event also fell through.

The featherweight title has seen many big names hold the title including Connor McGregor, Paddy Pimblett, Paul Hughes, Jordan Vucenic and Morgan Charriere. Harry Hardwick or Orlando Wilson Prins will put their name alongside the names and hoping to have success . It is possible the first defence could be against Jordan Vucenic due to Vucenic still being signed to Cage Warriors. Vucenic is currently on a 3 fight winning streak with all victories coming by way of submission since he lost his title.

Also featuring on the card Chasen Blair will be bring his power across the atlantic. This is when he takes on Artūrs Leisāns. All 4 of Chasen Blair’s victories in his career have came by knockout and will be looking to extend this with the victory. Also featuring is Kennedy Freeman who is looking to make it to 5-0 and 2-0 under the cage warriors banner. Both these fighters like to keep the fight on the feet and will a joy to watch this weekend.
