Chael Sonnen Reveals Reasons Behind McGregor Pulling Out

Must read

Chael Sonnen reveals the reason that UFC 303 main event was cancelled.

The ‘Bad Guy’ claims that Connor McGregor is in rehab for substance abuse after the Irishman withdrew from the fight. Sonnen believes that this the real reason the UFC cancelled the main event.

Whilst Sonnen’s claims are baseless at this point. The ‘Bad Guy’ adds to the growing list of rumours as to why the UFC cancelled the event.

Chael Sonnen Provides Interested Theory on Conor McGregor

Speaking on his weekly podcast the Good Guy/ Bad Guy alongside Daniel Cormier Chael Sonnen said; “What incredible irony that both sides have these massive interests in alcohol and one side is in the middle of rehab for substance abuse including alcohol, not that that has anything to do with this.”

“What were you saying Daniel?… did it just get hot in here? Oh it just got hot in here. Oh the big guy just came out and said it, he wasn’t supposed to talk about that. Well, that’s why people tune in, we’re on a subscription service.”

Whilst the pair quickly moved on, fans were quick to pick onto the comments made by Chael Sonnen. Crucially, it was not also revealed who the duo were referring to but with McGregor owing his own whiskey company Proper Twelve. Sonnen in particular is very vocal on social media and these comments will only add to the rumours surrounding the cancelation of McGregor vs Chandler

Following on from this, these comments made by Chael just fuel the rumours as to why the event was cancelled. Connor McGregor revealed a leg injury which hasn’t recovered in the given time was the reason.

What Next?

The most important question is what is next for the pair. McGregor hasn’t fought since his leg break back in 2021 and Chandler has waited eighteen months to face McGregor. Dana White has suggested that Chandler could continue to move on from the whole McGregor saga with a summer fight.

Given the superstar Connor McGregor is and the way the Irishman transformed the UFC with his brash trash talking and press conferences. Any McGregor news travels fast on social media. Chael Sonnen on his podcast doesn’t think the Irishman will ever return to the Octagon

Chael Sonnen went on to say; “Anything that goes up must come down, I thought it would have dimmed by now. I was predicting at UFC 299 that McGregor was going to co-main event and he didn’t want to do that. The gate record would have been $27 million. Connor hasn’t won a fight in five years and he is coming off one of the worst injuries of his career.”

Given the severity of McGregor’s injury in his last fight it is understandable that he would need more recovery time. Chael Sonnen on the other hand doesn’t believe that the ‘Mystic Mac’ will ever step foot in the Octagon again.
