Champions League: Rangers VAR officials changed for Dynamo Kyiv

Must read

The Polish FA is investigating “reports of improper behaviour” following a late change of VAR officials for Rangers’ Champions League third round qualifying tie against Dynamo Kyiv.

Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial were replaced by Uefa before the match in Lublin, Poland.

The pair were scheduled to act as VAR and assistant VAR for the game, but Polish media have reported that police were involved following an incident on the eve of the game.

A statement from European football’s governing body Uefa said: “The College of Referees of the Polish FA will carry out a detailed analysis of the situation in connection with reports of improper behaviour of two Ekstraklasa [Poland’s top flight] referees who were supposed to work on the qualifying match between Dynamo Kyiv and Rangers.”

The replacement officials are also from the Polish FA.

Kyiv’s ‘home’ match is being played in Lublin because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine while the return leg will be at Hampden next Tuesday with redevelopment work at Ibrox not finished.

The winners of the tie will meet RB Salzburg or Twente in the play-off round.
