Chelsea transfer news: Juventus ‘enquire’ about status of England international

Must read

Juventus reportedly initiate contact to establish the potential availability of an England international at Chelsea.

Juventus have reportedly made contact over the availability of a Chelsea player whose future at Stamford Bridge could be in doubt.

Having appointed Thiago Motta as their new coach, there have been significant incomings and outgoings at the Italian giants.

The midfield has been reinforced with the arrivals of Douglas Luiz and Khephren Thuram, while Juan Cabal will hope to challenge for a regular spot at left-back.

However, despite the funds that have been recouped through player sales, Juventus are still in a position where they are struggling to get other deals over the line.

Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo had looked likely to arrive in Turin, only for Juventus to fail to finalise financial terms with the French outfit and allow West Ham United to hijack that transfer.

As a result, more thought is needed to be given into their future acquisitions, and it appears that they may look to take advantage of a situation that could materialise at Chelsea.

Juventus open to Sterling signing

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus have initiated contact regarding the possible signing of Raheem Sterling.

Juventus allegedly want to determine what conditions Chelsea may look for if they were to consider the permanent or temporary exit of the England international.

The indication is that a loan agreement would be Juventus’ preference at a time when fellow Three Lions man Jadon Sancho of Manchester United has also been on their radar.

Sterling has less than three years remaining on his contract at the West Londoners and there is already realistically no chance of a renewal due to his age, wages and Chelsea’s preference for younger players.

How could the situation develop?

Despite a return of 19 goals and 12 assists from 81 appearances, Chelsea fans have not warmed to Sterling, partially due to some of his in-game decision making.

Reports have always indicated that Sterling wants to stay put in the capital, yet it is unclear whether his stance will soften once Pedro Neto has arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

During Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States, the 29-year-old featured in all five friendlies but for never more than 63 minutes in a single game.

With Nicolas Jackson and Mykhaylo Mudryk also alternatives on the left flank, Chelsea would likely be open to facilitating a departure for Sterling if the player was interested in an exit.
