Devon is famous for many things, its spectacular beaches, its rugged Jurassic coastline, ancient cathedrals and, of course, the delicious Devonshire cream tea.
It’s perhaps no surprise then, that the county has been named one of the most photo-worthy destinations in England. Researchers from Cotswold Outdoor studied the UK destinations with the most Instagram hashtags to determine Devon to be the most snapped county in the nation.
Based on their research, the team said: “The most scenic county in the UK is Devon, with an astounding 8.1m Instagram hashtags to its name.
“From the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast to the sands of its pristine beaches, Devon offers a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and sun-seekers. The most scenic town in Devon was Salcombe, with almost 278,000 hashtags.”
Devon’s coastlines are one of the biggest draws for visitors year-round. Visitors can discover rugged, towering cliffs and the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere on the north coast.
Over five million people visit the North Devon Biosphere each year, home to incredible rolling dunes, grassland and moors, towns and villages, as well as the stunning coast and blue sea.
Though it can be hard to choose which beach to visit during a stay in South Devon, local tourism board Visit South Devon rounded up its top 10 beaches in the area.
These include Bantham Beach, Beer Beach, Bigbury on Sea, Blackpool Sands, Dawlish Warren Beach, East Portlemouth Beach, Hope Cove Beach, Sandy Bay, Teignmouth Town Beach, and Slapton Sands and Toreros.
