Coldplay world tour has fans scratching heads over unusual UK city choice

Must read

Coldplay’s recent tour announcement has stunned fans as the band is set to return to Wembley, but some are confused by their other performance dates.

Chris Martin and the legendary pop group are set to showcase upcoming album Moon Music on a tour of the UK next year, with five dates at Wembley in London confirmed. But two dates before they attend the iconic London venue have left fans scratching their heads.

People took to Reddit‘s CasualUK forum to express their confusion at the recent announcement, which has left some chuckling about the world tour and the one city which does not quite fit the bill.

User BigBlueMountainStar wrote: “Seeing an email about Coldplay’s world tour made me chuckle – they’re playing in exotic, big cities around the World; Seoul, Sydney, Auckland, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Melbourne, London and… Hull! LOL.”

Though people mocked the destination, some defended the choice. The band are expected to perform two nights in the city at Craven Park.

One wrote: “Fair play to them for going to places other big bands skip. When is the last time a global music act played Hull? I rate it.” Another user added: “We’ve had a few people since the new arena opened, although this at one of the rugby grounds.

“Off the top of my head we’ve had Blondie, Bring Me The Horizon, Offspring, The Who and Bowling For Soup all relatively recently.”

Another user suggested it is Coldplay’s way of giving back to areas constantly overlooked for gigs. One user suggested: “I think that’s it. They do seem the kind of guys who will have thought ‘sure, Wembley is a given, but is there somewhere we can take this that normally gets left out?’.

Others pointed out Hull has been a place of brilliant music gigs in recent years, with one revealing: “The Who, Tom Jones and Fatboy Slim have all played in Hull in the past few years. No idea why they’ve chosen Craven Park as the venue though, Hull City’s stadium has double the capacity.”

Hull has also played host to the likes of Bob Dylan, Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds and The Last Dinner Party in the last few years, making Coldplay’s city choice all the more fitting for their 2025 tour.
