Couple jet to Spanish island for £260 day trip to enjoy tapas and sangria

A couple from Cumbria managed to swap the dreary UK weather for sunny Ibiza skies for just eight hours – and all for under £260.

Jenette Hardy, 42, and her husband Daniel, 49, took a whirlwind day trip to the popular Spanish island, spending their time exploring its picturesque sights and enjoying local cuisine.

Jenette, who runs an events entertainment company, and Daniel flew out from Manchester Airport, arriving on the island at 9:50am. and making the most of their time before catching their evening flight home.

The impromptu getaway cost just £257, including flights, parking, food, drink, transportation, and souvenirs for their kids.

“We explored the marina and admired the super yachts before wandering through Ibiza Town,” Jenette said.

The couple enjoyed coffee and people-watching at Plaça de la Constitució, browsed a market, and sipped sangria at Plaça del Sol.

They rounded off their visit with a walk along Figueretes Beach and dined at a gluten-free tapas restaurant Jenette had researched beforehand.

Their travel costs broke down to £75 each for flights, £18 for airport parking, £78 on food and drinks, £3 on bus fare, and £8 on souvenirs.

This day trip isn’t a one-off for the adventurous couple.

“This year, we went to Dublin for my husband’s birthday in January, took my mother-in-law to Geneva in March, and in February, I took our two children, my brother-in-law, and a friend to Belfast,” said Jenette.

For their Ibiza trip, they left their home at 1.30am and returned by 2.00am the following day. Jenette chose Ibiza for its affordability and pleasant October weather, knowing it would be warm enough for a t-shirt.

Jenette offered advice for those considering similar day-long getaways.

“You will be tired if you have had an early start, so try to sleep on the plane. Plan bigger activities for the morning so you can still enjoy them even if you feel tired later in the day.

“Do your research beforehand, identify key attractions and understand the transport system to maximize your time.”
