We all have those failsafe styles have become our easy, go-tos for events over the years. For me, it’s a classic LBD. For Dakota Johnson? A slip dress with a see-through bra element, if her last few looks are anything to go by.
In the past week alone, the actor has stepped out in no fewer than three versions of the lingerie-inspired style, that’s fast becoming her event dressing signature. First, she attended a Bulgari Studio party in New York wearing a chocolate brown silk Gucci slip dress that featured contrasting sheer black lace panels on the chest for an unexpected ‘free the nipple’ moment.
Then, a few days later, Johnson attended a party at Toronto Film Festival for her directorial debut, Loser Baby, in a similar Gucci look – though, this time around, it was even more lingerie-like with its delicate lace and sequin overlay, ultra-thin straps and intricate sheer bra detail.

And finally, last night, the actor attended Kering’s third annual Caring For Women dinner in NYC in an elevated, red-carpet-worthy version of the same design. The Gucci brand ambassador turned to the luxury Italian designer yet again for her look for the occasion: an elegant white column gown with a see-through, crystal-covered top that was chic and sultry in equal measure.
Johnson let the dramatic gown do all the talking – understandably – and kept her make-up to a natural minimum, and her hair in a simple half-up-half-down style. As for accessories, she wore a pair of silver platform sandals, Boucheron pearl and diamond pendant earrings, and a matching ring.
A snap of the star leaving her hotel prior to the event showed that her full look also featured a black tux draped over her shoulders and a metallic silver handbag to match her shoes. Johnson really never puts a fashion foot wrong.
