An office building to be built in Doncaster will be a “flagship digital tech hub”, the city council said.

Gateway One on Trafford Way will revolve around digital technology with local AI firm Automatic Analytics among the founding businesses.

Work on the £24m building on Trafford Way will begin in early 2025, with completion expected in 2026, City of Doncaster Council said.

Mayor Ros Jones said it was an “exciting time” for the city centre.

Mayor Ros Jones said Gateway One showed how Doncaster was becoming recognised for its “industry expertise around artificial intelligence”

Unveiling details on Thursday, the council said the building would “enable businesses and entrepreneurs to co-locate with other like-minded businesses and industry leaders to collaborate, develop local supply chain opportunities, access local, regional, and national business support provision, and strengthen industry links with education and skills provision”.

Trafford Court Offices, Wolseley Plumb Centre and a vacant retail unit will be demolished to make way for the new site.

Office space will span across five floors, with two commercial units on the ground floor which incorporate alfresco dining.

The site, which is designed to achieve net zero carbon emissions, will also include an area of public open space.

Ms Jones said: “Our city is rapidly becoming recognised for its industry expertise around artificial intelligence, and I am keen to build this momentum and drive forward our ambition to regenerate our city centre and develop our economy for the 21st century.”
