A breathtaking island is currently advertising a number of job roles with starting salaries reaching up to £129,000. NHS Scotland is seeking to fill various positions on Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides.

The jobs cater to a range of skill levels, with most based at the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway.

For those dreaming of escaping the hustle and bustle of mainland Scotland for a tranquil island life, Lewis could be the ideal location. Alongside a variety of independent shops, eateries, and pubs in Stornoway, the island boasts an abundance of stunning walking and hiking trails – but you’ll need to work within the medical industry to land these coveted roles.

The vacancies include a Consultant Radiologist and a Locum Consultant Physician in General Medicine, both offering starting salaries between £96,963 and £128,841 – plus a ‘Distant Island Allowance’ of £1,279. The former role involves providing a comprehensive clinical radiology service for NHS Western Isles, while the latter will play an active part in developing hospital protocols.

Other available roles requiring less experience include two registered nurses and a Health Care Assistant, with starting salaries of up to £37,664 and £27,486 respectively. The nursing positions will be based in a ward specialising in acute medicine and stroke rehabilitation, while the Health Care Assistant will be tasked with decontaminating equipment in operating theatres, reports the Daily Record.

A Mental Health Occupational Therapist position is on offer, boasting a salary range of £37,831 to £46,100. The role involves supporting adults with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and dementia.

The job comes with the added allure of Lewis and Harris’s breathtaking scenery and includes discounts on leisure and shopping, alongside a “comprehensive range of work life balance policies” and access to occupational health services.

The HiJOBS listing entices potential applicants with: “Have you got a passion for remote and rural medicine? Are you keen to escape the rat race and embrace a healthier work life balance?”

It continues, highlighting the Western Isles’ charm: “Known as Scotland’s Atlantic Islands, the Western Isles are steeped in history and culture, with stunning landscapes, spectacular coastlines, a strong sense of community and identity, and renowned Hebridean hospitality. For those with young families, the Western Isles also offer a safe place to live, a high quality education system, with low levels of crime.”
