About the role

Reporting into the editor-in-chief, the editor will have overall responsibility for planning and executing the content strategy for House Beautiful to support the brand’s growth plans across all platforms and customer touchpoints.

Leading the daily editor and the deputy editor, the editor will oversee the commissioning and editing of all original content and the repurposing and curation of existing content for all channels including app, website, e-commerce, social media, newsletters, magazines and supplements.

You will work hand-in-hand with the teams from the Centre of Excellence, in particular the creative director, chief sub-editor and directors from the homes community to ensure that an on-brand, engaging ‘magazine’ experience is delivered across all channels.

Key responsibilities:

  • Have an acute understanding of the homes landscape, trends, new products and new brands on the market. 
  • Work with the editor-In-chief and creative director to realise the brand strategy and vision, ensuring a clear and unified approach
  • Work closely with the deputy editor and daily editor to deliver an integrated approach to all content creation and production, ensuring every opportunity is fully exploited and developed to its potential. 
  • Lead the team in continuous creativity, contributing a never-ending stream of ideas and experiences for cross-platform content ideas that push the entire brand forwards. 
  • Assist in the communication of this vision to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the team on a day-to-day basis, guiding and supporting them to create best-in-class content that drives conversation amongst the brand’s audience, as well as circulation, subscription/membership growth.
  • Ensure factual accuracy and legal safety of all copy, as well as ensuring our tone remains consistent and our core brand principles are ever-present. 
  • Work with the group chief sub editor to ensure an effective and efficient workflow, communicating any issues or changes in best practice to the team and editor-in-chief. Support in helping to drive laser-sharp accuracy from the subs’ hub across the homes division. 
  • Ensure all production deadlines are met in accordance with agreed schedules.
  • Work with the editor-in-chief to ensure the smooth running of the print brand financially.
  • Help ensure the team have clear KPIs that deliver into the overall brand strategy. 
  • Support our licensing partners. Work with the commercial content director on the planning and delivery of all HB licensing content, ensuring that brand partners are provided with a highly engaging editorial experience.
  • To be an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values. 
  • You may be required to undertake such further duties as your skills, qualifications and experience allow and/or as may be assigned to you from time to time.

About you

This role requires a very experienced editorial lead, who has worked at a high level in magazine content creation and has a detailed understanding of quality content, visuals and the production process.

  • Adaptable, with the ability to deal confidently with both colleagues but also work independently.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure whilst maintaining the highest level of accuracy in work standards.
  • A can-do attitude with a delivery-oriented approach
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to collaborate and communicate with multiple divisions within Hearst and externally with multiple contractors and suppliers.
  • A passion for homes and interiors, with an understanding of how to make content relevant to a premium/mass audience 
  • A strong and creative eye for quality and detail with in-depth knowledge of the subbing process and workflow management
