Qatar may be globally recognised as the host of the 2022 Fifa World Cup, it’s not typically on most people’s travel bucket lists.

But one city is becoming more and more popular among tourists. Doha, the capital of Qatar, has morphed into a bona fide hub for art, with numerous installations scattered throughout the city.

The museums here have received international acclaim, and the array of accommodation and dining options are available.

Futuristic architecture is adorned with calligraphy, a stone’s throw from the design quarter Mshereib you’ll discover a place where falconry is still practised, and the nation’s pearl heritage is a source of pride.

A trip to Doha offers a chance to immerse yourself in age-old traditions and culture, while also appreciating the modern advancements that coexist alongside them.

The city is also just one hour away from Dubai, which has become more and more popular among tourists in recent years.

Doha is also the fastest expanding city in Qatar, with over 80 percent of the country’s inhabitants residing in the city or its surrounding suburbs.

The city of Doha was established in the 1820s as an offshoot of Al Bidda. It was officially recognised as the country’s capital in 1971 when Qatar gained independence from British rule.

Doha also boasts the Doha Sports City, or Aspire Zone, an international sports destination that includes Khalifa International Stadium, Hamad Aquatic Centre; and the Aspire Dome.

From February to May and October to December, the temperatures hit the mid-twenties and low thirties, with evening and nighttime temperatures in the mid to high 10s.

It’s warm but comfortable, and while there might be some rainfall in the winter months, it’s minimal.
