A new list has unveiled the mightiest armies in Europe, ranking the continent’s military forces.
As per data released by Global Fire Power for 2024, the UK boasts the most formidable military force in Europe and ranks sixth globally. In 2021, defence accounted for 2.2% of the country’s £2.4 trillion ($3 trillion).
The UK’s Royal Air Force (RAF) comprises 664 aircraft, with 18% classified as fighters. The Navy commands 117 assets, including 11 frigates, ten submarines, and 26 patrol vessels, reports Daily Express UK.
Moreover, the British army is equipped with 126 towed artillery, 71 self-propelled artillery, and 213 tanks.
Italy clinches the second spot, with over half of its personnel in active service this year. Globally, Italy ranks 14th and operates 800 aircraft in its air force, with 11% deemed fighters.
Italy‘s navy deploys eight submarines, 18 patrol vessels, and 13 frigates. Its army possesses 200 tanks, 64 self-propelled artillery, and 108 towed artillery.
France secures third place, with a massive 376,000 personnel contributing to the nation’s military prowess. It has the largest military in the EU by staff numbers and ranks 11th worldwide.
France operates 992 aircraft, including 224 fighters. Its land forces include 222 tanks, 96 self-propelled artillery, and a staggering 85,023 vehicles.
