Meghan Markle put her best fashion foot forward alongside her award-winning husband, Prince Harry, to grace the ESPY Awards in style at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California on July 11.
Fans of the Duchess of Sussex could not contain their joy at seeing Meghan in a “classic” and “simple” dress, with eagle-eyed viewers noting it looked very similar to her wedding reception dress previously designed by Stella McCartney.
Meghan, 42, dressed up for the awards date night wearing a custom, floor-length, white halter gown by Oscar de la Renta (as confirmed by People Magazine), paired with black strappy sandals. She was also spotted wearing a Rodi Cassandra gold and diamond loop ring on her hand.
Styling her hair up, Meghan wore a slicked black bun, showing off a pair of square diamond earrings, which coordinated with the gown’s ivory palette.
Commenting on her appearance, fans on Instagram exclaimed: “She is GLOWING! She looks stunning in this amazingly simple, elegant bespoke ODL gown! Simple gown and simple styling, can’t miss!”
Another fan loved her accessories: “Love this all so much, but that ring is so unique and gorgeous.”
Whereas one Fashion fan claimed: “This is beautiful, classic style and colour with hair and makeup to match a la Meghan. The sandals are gorgeous.”
User, @tasminbranch, believed the dress to look identical to her wedding reception dress and said: “Definitely giving vibes from her wedding reception dress! Love it!”
Meghan’s white ESPY dress bore a resemblance to her stunning Stella McCartney reception gown, which she was seen wearing as the couple made their way to Frogmore House for their evening reception in Windsor in May 2018. The reception gown was in lily white, made of silk crepe and featured a bespoke high neck.
Another Twitter user added: “She loves monochrome! [The dress] reminds me of her second wedding dress.”
Meghan also posed for pictures with her close pal Serena Williams, who was hosting the ceremony and mentioned the Sussexes in her opening monologue. Host Williams drew attention to the Sussexes at the start of the ceremony, joking that it’s actually quite often that she’s in a room with royalty.
After the speech, the Duke of Sussex went up on stage to get his award, named after former sports star, Pat Tillman.
Tillman, who gave up a £3million ($3.8million) contract to enlist in the US Army following the 9/11 tragedy, was killed 20 years ago in friendly fire in Afghanistan.
Harry expressed his “biggest gratitude to everyone in the Pat Tillman foundation” and acknowledged his mother Mary Tillman, despite slamming the decision to choose the “divisive and controversial” royal for the award
Harry has faced an intense backlash for receiving the ESPN award in honor of a fallen soldier and NFL player, with some warning it is “exceptionally bad publicity”.
