Expert claims traditional seaside town has the least rain

Must read

A new study compiled using data claims to have found the best resort in the UK to beat the rain this summer. According to Met Office data from 130 popular “staycation spots”, analysed by experts from Ripe, claims that a traditional is one of the best to visit if you want to beat the rain.

While the weather in might not be known for year-round tropical sunshine, according to the study, the traditional seaside resort has the lowest number of rainy days each year out of the holiday resorts analysed.

The experts claim there are just 102 rainy days in Skegness on average, with them dubbing it the best holiday resort in the UK to avoid downpours. A spokesperson from Ripe said: “In July and August, the Lincolnshire town typically experiences just 53mm of rain on average.

“Despite being voted the ‘worst’ seaside town in the UK by many polls, Skegness offers the highest chance of a dry holiday.

“By comparison, the wettest holiday spot was found to be Ullapool on the west coast of Scotland. The Highlands village sees more than double the average rainy days per year than Skegness, at 213.”

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Skegness has received an accolade for good weather.

In 2021, LincolnshireLive reported that it was named among the top 10 “sunniest places to go for a staycation” by comparethemarket.com.

Data collected by independent website weather-atlas.com found that Skegness gets slightly more rainy days than the Ripe report, suggesting an average of 166.6 days of rain each year and up to 363mm of precipitation.

April is reported to be the month with the least rainfall in Skegness. Rain falls for an average of 11.9 days and accumulates 16mm of precipitation. August, meanwhile, is reported to be, on average, the warmest month with a high temperature of 19C and a low of 14.6C.

Regardless of where you go in the UK, the reality is that the weather is unpredictable, so you should always prepare for the chance of rain.

However, for those who visit Skegness regularly, it’s not necessarily the weather that draws them in, but the resort’s history and its traditional seaside attractions.
