This is the man who has been charged with outraging public decency after a woman allegedly performed a sex act on him in a busy car park.

Last Monday at Belfast Magistrates Court 37-year-old Adrian Reid was charged and bailed over the alleged incident.

Reid, previously from Cedarmount in Antrim but now listed as no fixed abode, was charged with committing an act outraging public decency on August 3 this year.

A police officer told the court how a member of the public reported seeing a man and woman engaging in a sexual act at the entrance to the car park at Cityside Retail Park just before 11am.

“He stated that he was with his wife and young child when he witnessed the female performing oral sex on the male in broad daylight, with many members of the public passing by,” said the cop.

Based on descriptions provided to police, Reid and his lover were arrested and while he was charged to court on Monday, the woman is due to appear later this month.

During police questioning, the two lovebirds claimed they could not remember the incident as they were too drunk but freeing Reid on bail, Deputy District Judge Liam McStay barred him from drinking alcohol in a public place.

It is three and a half years ago since tragedy struck the Reid family when Adrian Reid’s younger sister Shona Gillan was found drowned in the Six Mile Water river.

The 18-year-old went missing after leaving her mother’s house in Antrim on March 3 2021 and her body was found at the Six Mile Water river three days later on March 6.

Police at the time ruled out that she had taken her own life and said they were not treating the death as suspicious but her family have consistently raised concerns about the circumstances in which Shona died.

At the conclusion of a four-day inquest into the teenager’s tragic death Coroner Joe McCrisken said that he suspected that a named witness may have been with Shona when she entered the water just off a stretch of the Mill Race Trail.

However conflicting statements and the witness claiming that he could not remember what had happened because he had taken alcohol and drugs meant that Mr McCrisken could not elaborate further.
