Firefighters tackle blaze behind Liverpool Shopping Park

A commercial unit went up in flames this afternoon behind a busy retail park. At 2.43pm today (Tuesday August 6) Merseyside Fire and Rescue attended the fire on Pighue Lane, behind Liverpool Shopping Park on Edge Lane.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they were greeted by a single storey commercial unit which was fully ablaze. Fire crews wearing breathing equipment fought the fire, with two main branches. Merseyside Police managed traffic and a cordon was put in place.

At approximately 3.30pm, the incident was scaled down with two fire engines soon to be released from the incident. A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: “Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is currently in attendance at an incident on Pighue Lane, Liverpool L13.

“Crews were alerted at 2.39pm and on scene within four minutes. Four fire engines were mobilised to the incident. On arrival, crews found a single storey commercial unit fully involved in fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were committed to fight the fire, with two main branches.

“Merseyside Police is also in attendance, managing traffic and outer cordon. Crews continued to extinguish the fire and at approximately 3.30pm, the incident was scaled down with two fire engines soon to be released from the incident. Crews are currently dampening down and hotspotting.”
