A flight attendant has shared the heartbreaking truth about the glamorous job that people don’t often know about.
Many people think being a member of cabin crew would be a dream come true, but only people who actually do it know the harsh realities of the job, with one explaining she often misses out on important family events due to being on “standby”.
TikToker @hannahgaiger shared a video detailing the ‘realities’ of working in the skies, stating that it can be tough missing big occasions with loved ones.
She captioned the video: “Just thought I’d share a little transparency about being cabin crew instead of my usual highlight reel of great trips I’ve had”.
Hannah explained she was unable to attend her step-sister’s baby shower as she was “on standby from Wednesday to Monday”, meaning she could have been called to fly at any moment.
Despite there being a 10% chance she wouldn’t have had to fly, she couldn’t make it, leaving her feeling “sad”. She also revealed she was the only member of her large family not present at the event.
Adding to her disappointment, all her friends were out for brunch that day. Despite these challenges, Hannah said she tries to “take [it] with a pinch of salt” and affirmed that she “loves” her job.
She added she’s a “strong person” and can handle the setbacks “quite well.”
In her post, she penned: “I love my job but days like these can be tough as you know there’s nothing you could have done to change it and you just have to be okay with missing out on some things that may be important to you.”
