Outbound British Airways flights from City to Edinburgh and Zurich are among those cancelled.

Southend Airport said that inbound BA and KLM flights had been diverted to its runway “due to fog in City”.

London City Airport told The Sun: “Some flights have been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions in some parts of London today.

“Passengers should check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport.”

British Airways has also been contacted for comment.

A Met Office yellow rain warning is force for most of southern England and south Wales until midnight.

Heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption and flooding across the warning zone.

There is a slight chance of flood damage, power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

Spray and flooding could also lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

There is a slight chance of damage from lightning strikes, most likely across the north of the warning area.

And there is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads.

Fast flowing or deep floodwater could pose a “danger to life”, forecasters said.

Around 40-60mm of rain could soak some areas – with 15-30mm falling elsewhere.
