Fog causes third day of travel disruption

Must read

More than 200 flights to and from UK airports have been cancelled between noon on Friday and Saturday evening, and dozens more have been cancelled this morning.

In the county, some A-roads have experienced slow traffic. Bristol Airport has not reported any disruption due to the fog.

The fog is expected to clear today, with Met Office senior forecaster Craig Snell saying that wind “should start to disperse some of the poorer visibilities across the rest of the UK”.

The afternoon should see sunny intervals as the “mist and murk” clears from higher ground.

A spokesperson for Gatwick said: “Temporary air traffic restrictions have been put in place due to fog causing poor visibility.

“Some flights may be delayed throughout the day.”

Nats, the UK’s main air traffic control provider, said temporary air restrictions would remain in place on Saturday in areas with low visibility.

A spokesperson added: “Restrictions of this sort are only ever applied to maintain safety.

“We continue to monitor the situation and have a Met Office expert embedded within our operation to ensure we have the latest available information.”
