British tourists have been hit with a warning from Cyprus due to a little known passport rule.
The Cypriot Foreign Office has made UK tourists aware that you will need to have “at least one blank page for stamping” in your passport.
Additionally, similar to other countries, a passport’s date of issue must be less than 10 years before the date in which you arrive.
Requirements also include an ‘expiry date’ three months after your departure date.
Government officials warn travellers to ensure that their passport and travel documents are valid, and that they meet any necessary requirements.
They further warn: “You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.”
The Post Office said: “Many people pack their bags for a holiday or business trip with just a casual glance at their passport expiration date, but if it’s due to expire you may be refused entry.”
“While most countries such as Australia, Canada and the USA just need your passport to be valid for the length of your stay, other countries such as China, Thailand, Egypt and Turkey need at least six months. Always check the specific entry requirements for the country you are visiting on the GOV.UK website.”
Generally, many countries that require a visa to enter will require at least six months validity on your passport when entering the country, so make sure you find out whether your passport matches the required standards.
Brits flying to the European Union can renew passports via the Post Office website.
