If you are heading to Italy soon, you will want to ensure that you know about two important checks that could happen during your holiday.
On their gov.uk website, the Foreign Office is asking Brits to read up on two important things when it comes to travelling around the country. The government officials warn that if you do not comply, you could risk a hefty fine. And if you don’t have much spending money, this could take away a pretty big chunk from it.
Under their ‘laws and cultural differences’ the travel officials state that there are two things people need to be aware of when it comes to personal ID and public transport regulations. They add that this travel advice also covers Vatican City.
The officials say that you need at least one form of ID and, in some cases, two.Â
They explain: “You must always be able to show some form of ID. In most cases a copy of the photo page of your passport should be enough, but you may also be asked for a second form of photo ID. The police will normally ask for your full passport if you are stopped while driving.”
As well as ensuing you have the correct forms of ID, you also need to make sure that you have your ticket ready to go. If you don’t, you risk a hefty fine of up to 500 euros. This can however be slashed to just 50 euros if you can pay it up front.
They state that before you travel, you need to validate your tickets prior to starting journey. They explain: “Officials patrol public transport and will issue an on-the-spot fine of 100 to 500 euros (reduced to 50 euros if paid immediately) if you do not have a validated ticket.”
