Four Scottish cities named among most festive in UK for Christmas getaways

FOUR Scottish cities have been named among the most festive for a Christmas getaway.

The research by GO Outdoors ranked areas of the UK based on factors such as the number of snow days and the duration of the Christmas markets.

The study revealed that Inverness is the best place to spend the festivities with a score of 9.86/10.

The city has plenty of snow and contains 4.23 restaurants per 1,000 people.

Punters can enjoy traditional food in front of an open fire in Inverness.

And it has several attractions including the Brodie Illuminated light show and seasonal markets.

Glasgow also makes the list with a score of 9.73/10 and is a popular location for Christmas fans.

The city is famed for its festive lights at the city’s George Square.

It also hosts an annual Christmas market which is open for 58 days – more than any other city.

Visitors can enjoy festive views of the city from the 35-metre-high Ferris Wheel.

Elsewhere Edinburgh is also famed for its markets and scores 9.68/10.

The Capital offers 64 nearby walking trails and 410 Google searches yearly for “Christmas walks” and “winter trails.”

The Christmas Tree Maze in St Andrew Square, with 450 illuminated trees to get lost in, is fun for the whole family.

Meanwhile the study found that Dundee is the ideal location for a family Christmas getaway.

The city is reportedly home to some of the UK’s most affordable ice-skating options.

And Dundee’s pubs are child-friendly, making it easy for the whole family to enjoy meals.
