The retail behemoth Frasers Group has announced that Ger Wright, managing director of sport, will step down next month. Wright, who began working at Sports Direct in 2022, will step down on November 30 but will continue to serve as a non-executive director on the board.
Wright “has made a significant contribution to the execution of the group’s elevation strategy” since being appointed, according to Frasers.
With the launch of its running and outdoor ideas, the onboarding of new brands, and global development into new countries, it said that its sports proposition had “evolved during her tenure.”
“Ger leaves behind a talented and driven team that will keep developing and pushing the sport’s elevation strategy,” Frasers added.
Wright led merchandising at Nike’s marketplace division in EMEA for 16 years before to joining the company.
Frasers strengthened its global aspirations this month by forming a number of strategic alliances and acquisitions in the Benelux area.
The group is launching nine new Sports World locations in the Netherlands after acquiring Sprinter stores earlier this year. Five more locations have been confirmed to open by the end of the year, while four of these have already opened.
In the upcoming months, the business also intends to open two Sports Direct stores in Belgium and Luxembourg.
