Fresh look at newly refurbished fitness facilities

Must read

This week, the last of three scheduled fitness suite refurbishments was completed at the Newark Sports and Fitness Centre on Lord Hawke Way, Newark.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has invested £700,000 in the upgrade scheme, which also included the Dukeries Leisure Centre in Ollerton and Blidworth Leisure Centre Fitness Suite.

The work was done to ensure that residents across the district now have access to the latest equipment in Active4Today gyms.

Susan Crosby, the council’s portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and leisure, said: “As a district council, supporting these refurbishments has been seen as a high priority.

“Encouraging healthier lifestyle choices is an important part of the work we do, so being able to offer our residents access to the latest gym equipment means that they can now exercise in clean modern spaces using the most up to date equipment.

“Doing even a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise three times a week can be beneficial to health.

“I would encourage anyone who is considering a gym membership or taking up any form of exercise to come and look at the new fitness suites in one of these three leisure centres.

“Ollerton, Blidworth and Newark have all benefitted from the Newark and Sherwood District Council investment which was put aside to ensure that the equipment at the leisure centres is up to date.”

There has also been some redecoration, new flooring and remodelling at the centres to create larger fitness suites.

Andy Freeman, chairman of the Active4Today board added: “I really want to thank the staff and contractors who have worked so hard to bring the fitness suites up to date so quickly.

“I’d also like to thank our customers for their patience — we’ve kept disruption for our members to a minimum with each of the refurbishments being completed in a single week. It really is a fantastic achievement.

“The end product is well worth it too. I regularly use the Fitness Suites, and I am really enjoying being able to access state of the art kit at no extra membership cost.

“The new equipment is fully digitally enabled, linking to the Life Fitness online coaching platform. This is a great addition for our customers.”
