Harold Tillman helped seal N Brown fashion deal

Must read

One of British fashion’s most influential figures is understood to have helped strike a multi-million-pound deal that secured the buyout of fashion group N Brown.

Harold Tillman, the former head of fashion brand Jaeger and luxury retailer Aquascutum, arranged negotiations between retail tycoon Mike Ashley and Lord Alliance, whose family took control of N Brown in a £191 million swoop in October, according to a source.

At the time of the buyout, Ashley’s Frasers Group controlled just over 20 per cent of N Brown.

Ashley is thought to have approached Tillman to help discuss the buyout with Alliance, chairman of N Brown since 1968.

It resulted in a takeover by a firm controlled by the chairman’s son Joshua Alliance.

It is not known if Tillman, the former chairman of the British Fashion Council, received any compensation for his services.
