ThisWeekinFM Partner Planet Mark has launched its UK Net-Zero Business Census, the largest private sector sustainability research initiative of its kind.
Delivered by the UK Business Climate Hub in partnership with Planet Mark, the project aims to establish a benchmark for the private sector’s progress on net-zero in the journey to cutting UK emissions by 90 per cent by 2050. By filling out the ten-minute survey using basic finance and HR information, businesses can contribute to UK-wide sustainability reporting.
The census will be repeated annually to monitor progress and provide insights to businesses in the future. Results will be segmented to allow for a regional, sector and business size breakdown of the data and Planet Mark also hopes that the results will help shape individual organisations’ net-zero business plans and reveal areas for improvement. In an update published in October 2023, The Climate Change Committee expressed concern about a “lack of urgency” to UK net-zero plans and that there were “insufficient plans for industry.” They reported that emissions were not decreasing at the pace required to meet future targets.
Planet Mark’s Director of Policy & Partnerships, Andrew Griffiths said: “This is the most ambitious survey ever undertaken on the state of UK business’ progress to achieving net-zero. Through working with so many like- minded partners, we will be able to reach thousands of businesses across the country to understand the commitments and actions they are taking to drive positive change for society, business and nature.
“We hope the results from the Census can inform the policy and investment decisions needed to secure business success as we transition to net-zero by 2050”.
The deadline to complete the census is 30 June 2024 and you can contribute here.
