Herd ventures into menswear with UK-produced cardigans

Sustainable British fashion brand Herd has introduced its woollen-based first menswear collection. 

Made in the UK, the two-piece debut — the Eccleston Cardigan and the made-to-order Loose Ends Cardigan — extends its “dedication to sustainability, luxury, and craftsmanship”, while bringing the brand to a new audience.

The Loose Ends Cardigan is handmade with five strands of yarn, featuring thick cables and deep ribbed trims for “a truly hand-knit feel”.  Customers can choose up to five coloursways from 12 plant-dyed, natural shades “to create a cardigan that’s uniquely theirs”.

The Eccleston Cardigan offers “comfort and luxury” for the colder months. Thick and weighty, it’s made with a deep ribbed texture, double-breasted buttons, and pockets for added practicality. 

Knitted from mouline yarn, where natural and plant-dyed shades are twisted together, every Eccleston cardigan is unique in its texture and colouring, offering a personal touch with each piece.

Herd said the wool is sourced from Bluefaced Leicester sheep in Northwest England and is traceable and processed within 150 miles of the farms, “ensuring accountable sourcing and fair prices for local farmers”. Even the buttons are made from nuts while the labels are 100% cotton, making both cardigans fully circular and eco-friendly.

Founded by Ruth Alice Rands in 2020, she said that “every piece… reflects [my] vision of a circular and regenerative fashion ecosystem, with a focus on quality, durability, and environmental responsibility”.

The Loose Ends Cardigan retails for £495 and Eccleston Cardigan for £625, available on the brand’s website.
