The hunt is on to fill empty units at an Ipswich shopping centre after its sale to new owners.

Penn Commercial and FHP Property Consultants have been called in to find tenants for Sailmakers Shopping Centre.

The site is home to big name brands such as Pandora, Boots and Poundland alongside independent stores such as Attic in the Moon, Retro Realm and The Nerd Hut.

Sailmakers was formerly owned by Nottingham-based ALB before its sale to an undisclosed buyer in March – for £3.02 million.

The two firms will be working alongside new asset managers Landswood de Coy LLP.

Vanessa Penn, managing director of Penn Commercial, expressed her excitement at being chosen to lead the drive.

She said the site was a popular retail destination in the heart of the town centre.

She added: “We are looking forward to attracting new national and local retailers to our Premier League town.”

Also in March, Ipswich Borough Council approved plans submitted by former owners ALB to turn vacant retail space on the first and second floors into flats.

It is currently unknown if these plans will progress under the new owners.

Also this year, HMV and Morrisons signed long-term leases at the site and Poundland reversed its decision to close.

Oliver Marshall, director of FHP, said they were delighted to ‘continue the good work started on attracting new operators’ to Sailmakers.

He added: “Having worked successfully with the previous owners, we look forward to working with the new owners, who have exciting plans and a clear vision to breathe new life into the scheme.”
