‘I visited 10 countries and spent £200 on each trip using three travelling tips’

Travelling the world doesn’t have to be just a dream with these genius money-saving tips.

Amid the cost-of-living crisis, many Brits are sacrificing their two weeks in the sun – unable to justify rising flight prices and hotel costs.

According to Evolution Money, a UK family of four now spends a staggering £4,792 on average for a fortnight break. But, budget traveller Em says it can be done on the cheap with a few simple tweaks.

The travel lover, who has visited 10 countries this year so far including Italy, Croatia, and Armenia, has only spent £2,000, which averages out at £200 per destination.

Taking to TikTok, she said: “My first tip is to get accommodation with a kitchen so that you can cook some of your own food. Of course, part of travelling is experiencing new cultures and trying the food, but this can quickly add up.”

Em sticks to eating out for just one meal a day, and rustles up some quick snacks in her kitchen to stay satiated. If travelling through expensive countries, this simple hack can save you a boatload of cash.

However, if you’re exploring cheaper destinations like South East Asia, you may not have to sacrifice your beloved meals out as it can actually work out more expensive to buy ingredients from the supermarket.

Her second tip is to purchase an eSim to avoid sky high roaming charges; you can also purchase physical sim cards from phone stores once you arrive in your destination.

“My third tip is to travel off-peak or in shoulder season whenever possible,” she added. “Everything is so much more expensive during the summer months.

“If you’re able to travel outside the months of July and August especially, you’ll save loads of money on pretty much everything. Plus, the destination will be a lot less crowded.”
