British holiday makers in Spain could face up to 70kmh winds as yellow and amber weather warnings have been put in place by Spanish weather agency Aemet.

Tourists visiting the city of Girona or nearby areas are being warned of winds of up to 70kmh and waves of 3 to 4 metres. The amber weather warning, which signifies an ‘important risk’ came into force at 8am today (Wednesday 4 December) and will end at 7:59 pm.

Brits visiting the Balearic Islands have also been warned of strong winds with yellow weather warnings in place from 3pm today in Menorca and Mallorca. Aemet has forecast northerly winds of up to 70 kmh.

Elsewhere, Granada’s coast is also included in the warning, with west and northwest winds with intervals of 50 to 60 kmh. This warning will end at 10:59 am today. Brits visiting Spain have also been warned of heavy showers around Barcelona and the Balearic Islands.

“Strong intervals of wind and/or very strong gusts in the Canary Islands, Ampurdán, northern Balearic Islands, around the lower Ebro and Alboran, although showers may occur in parts of the Cantabrian Sea.

“A low pressure system is expected to move across the northeastern half of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. “Occasional precipitation is not ruled out in other parts of the northeastern half. There is a probability of locally heavy showers in parts of the coast of Barcelona and the Balearic Islands.” And the weather agency has advised that by tomorrow (Thursday, December 5) the wind should have mostly eased.
