It’s official: three of the ‘world’s greatest places to visit’ are in the UK

Must read

You don’t need to tell us at Time Out that the UK is home to a wealth of spectacular cultural institutions and fine establishments. We’re always shouting from the rooftops about the best things to do, the best venues, the best places to eat, the best places to stay. So, when British places get recognised on a global scale, it’s a proud moment.

Now, two British hotels and one arts centre have been chosen by TIME magazine as three of the ‘world’s greatest places to visit’. TIME visited 100 destinations across the globe and picked their most stand-out establishments, including a luxury camp in Antarctica, the Baths of Caracalla in Rome and the Maui Cultural Lands in Hawaii. Solid company.

Raffles London at The OWO was the first of our hotels to get a mention as one of the greatest places to stay on the planet. You can read more about that on Time Out London here

Edinburgh’s luxury hotel 100 Princes Street also made the coveted list. Sitting in the former headquarters of the Royal Overseas League, 100 Princes Street has a long history of prestige – TIME described it as ‘meticulously restored and styled the new 30-room boutique hotel to channel the spirit of the Scottish explorers who once gathered here, inviting guests on a journey of their own’.

The final UK entrant (and one that is probably much more within budget) was Manchester’s Aviva Studios, home of Factory International. Completed in 2023, the arts centre was the UK’s biggest cultural project since the Tate Modern (we got to take a look around before it officially opened to the public).

TIME praised the Aviva Studios’ ‘star power’ and lineup of shows and events, which has included a modern dance interpretation of The Matrix by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle. You can find out what’s coming up at Aviva Studios here and read the full list of TIME’s greatest places to visit in the world here.

Did you see that you can buy an old Glasgow subway carriage for only £5000?

Plus: The 2027 Invictus Games will officially be hosted in the UK.
