From World Cup winners to Coronation Street shocks, ITV has produced its fair share of important moments to the British public over the years. Now, employees are doing their part to deliver real societal change.
ITV is continuing its impactful work towards becoming a zero-waste business by 2030, through engaging up to 4,000 UK-based employees in celebration of International E-Waste Day, while supporting digital inclusion in the process.
Through 2024, with the help of Vodafone UK and the UK’s leading digital inclusion charity, Good Things Foundation, ITV will be asking staff to donate any old devices they may have as part of the Great British Tech Appeal.
Not only can this help the planet by reducing the amount of e-waste finding its way to landfill – supporting a circular economy in the process – but usable donated tech is also repurposed and gifted to those in need of a smartphone or tablet.
Be greener and save cash: Donate or trade-in your old smartphone
Don’t throw away your old smartphone and not just because it’s Global Recycling Day – it could save you money or help a person in need.
In doing so, the Great British Tech Appeal aims to help close the digital divide that up to 10 million adults in the UK are currently experiencing due to their lack of a necessary device or connectivity.
Once securely wiped, refurbished and reboxed, Vodafone adds connectivity in the form of six months free data, calls and texts, before partners Good Things Foundation and Barnardo’s redistribute the items throughout their UK networks.
As of 2024, the initiative has seen nearly 45,000 devices collected and more than 15,000 donated. ITV’s most recent donation even included a number of phones previously used as props on the longest-running television soap opera in the world, Coronation Street.
