After beating Czech Tomas Machac to set up a quarter-final tie against 10th seed Australian Alex de Minaur, Jack Draper was quick to try and temper expectations on his young shoulders.

Just a month on from the retirement of three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray, many suggested that Draper was poised and ready to take the baton.

“To follow in Andy’s footsteps, it’s a big achievement for me,” said Draper

“I know that there’s still room for improvement and still room to hopefully go further.”

Draper, who is set to climb into the top 20 in the world when the rankings are updated next week, made easy work of De Minaur but discovered just how tough it is at the top tonight against world number one Jannik Sinner.

There is undoubtedly “room for improvement” but he is well on his way to being a regular in the latter stages of Grand Slam events.
