A politician hoping to be the next British Conservative Party leader was seen wearing a jumper saying “Hamas are terrorists” in the colours of the flag of Palestine.
Robert Jenrick, the MP for Newark in England, was snapped sporting the item of clothing in London, the Telegraph newspaper reported on Monday.
The phrase “Hamas are terrorists” was written on the jumper in green, white, and red letters.
The Telegraph said Jenrick had been jogging at the time.
“Anyone who thinks Hamas aren’t terrorists needs to give their head a wobble,” the British newspaper quoted a Jenrick campaign source as saying.
Hamas, the Palestinian group in power in the Gaza, is banned as a terrorist organisation in the UK.
Jenrick, the favourite to be elected as next Conservative leader, wore the jumper as Israel wages a war on the strip that has so far killed 41,455 people, according to the Gaza health ministry.
Hospitals, places of worship, and residential buildings have been attacked in the military campaign, while South Africa has accused Israel of genocide at the International Court of Justice, the United Nations’ top tribunal.
Israel’s war on Gaza has seen an outpouring of international public support for Palestinians.
