A North Yorkshire town, Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale, has been hailed as the “perfect” day trip destination by fellow journalist Samantha Teasdale.
Upon visiting the charming location, the reporter at YorkshireLive said Pateley Bridge has numerous perks, from local produce to convenient car parking and a gallery showcasing original film posters fetching up to £170,000 in value.
With lots of affordable short and long-haul car park spaces near the town centre, it’s a convenient place to “pop back any time to put your shopping in the car” so that you can enjoy the rest of your trip without the baggage.
Visitors don’t need to worry about getting lost, or having to take out their mobile for Google Maps, as the shops, restaurants and attractions are along the high street and the area is “well-signposted”.
Attractions include The Oldest Sweet Shop, which has been trading continuously since 1827, and is one of the few authentic traditional old sweet shops still selling retro sweets of a bygone age.
Then there’s Cocoa Joes, which serves the “country’s best hot chocolate”, the Nidderdale Museum for people interested in the local history of the town, and The Tordoff Gallery, which houses original film posters.
Further down the hill, there is a variety of takeaways available, including a traditional British fish and chip shop and a pancake house.
There’s even a “secret area”, nestled along stunning historic buildings, which offers more shops and dining options for locals and visitors.
One of Pateley Bridge’s charms is its “celebration of local produce”, said the reporter. The Crown Inn pub sources its meat from local butchers, a practice that is seemingly echoed throughout the village.
The local butchers even created a Pateley pasty to rival the Cornish version.
“I cannot say a bad thing about the beautiful North Yorkshire town,” said Samantha. “There were no litter on the streets, everyone was friendly, and we were able to get a full day of fun before heading back home.”
While Samantha visited Pateley Bridge during the winter, she is keen to return during the summer months to explore the tourist town even further.
Despite wanting to return to Pateley Bridge, in North Yorkshire, when the weather is warmer, she attested: “It really is a place where you can visit in all weathers as it has everything you could possibly need.”
