Bournemouth Airport has axed a security measure that has delayed many travellers.
Gone are the days of fishing out your electronics and fluids for scanning, as the new system streamlines the process while bolstering security measures.
The airport is now equipped with cutting-edge screening technology that allows passengers to keep their laptops and liquids up to 100ml in their carry-ons.
Bournemouth Airport allows passengers to keep liquids, laptops and electronics in their luggage while going through security.
The airport’s website advises that only liquids, pastes, gels, and pastes in containers of up to 100ml can be carried in hand luggage, with larger items needing to be checked in.
This move coincides with Jet2’s announcement of 16 fresh routes from Bournemouth next year, reports Bristol Live.
Any items over the 100ml limit in hand luggage will be confiscated and destroyed. However, there is no restriction on the number of containers under 100ml that can be carried.
During security checks, passengers must keep liquids and electrical items in their hand luggage. But all items must be taken out of pockets, including phones, keys, coins, and tissues, while watches can remain on.
The airport stated: “Bournemouth Airport has completed the process of installing and testing new security screening equipment to improve passenger security.”
“For hand luggage this means that with immediate effect, passengers flying from Bournemouth Airport can now leave liquids and large electrical items such as laptops in their cabin baggage. Passengers flying from Bournemouth Airport will no longer need to present liquids separately in a clear plastic bag however, liquids are still restricted to containers of up to 100ml.”
The airport also advised: “As many airports have not yet introduced this new technology, passengers should check restrictions prior to travel as, they may still be required to carry liquids within a clear plastic bag for the return journey back to Bournemouth Airport.”
