The M25 was closed in both directions after a serious crash on the busy motorway in Essex.

Two cars smashed on the anticlockwise carriageway between J28 and J27, causing all lanes to close. The anticlockwise carriageway remains closed.

The clockwise carriageway was also shut for the air ambulance to land. It was reopened at about 2pm and trapped vehicles travelling south have been released.

Elsewhere, the London Underground Piccadilly line continues to have severe delays due to a shortage of trains, while the stretch between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge at the end of the line remains closed for a third week due to difficult track conditions.
