Magical forest with its own train line and swimming pool perfect for autumn

Must read

As autumn approaches, you might be looking for a getaway where you can experience the best of the season right here in the UK.

As the leaves change and fall, it’s the perfect time to get out into nature, and enjoy the cooler weather.

If you’re looking for a spot which can offer the best of not only English nature, but also indoor activities for those cold snaps – and somewhere you can take your dog – then Whitemead Forest Park could be the perfect spot for your next holiday.

The park is nestled in the Forest of Dean, and guests have access to an indoor pool, gym and sauna during their stay as well as live entertainment and plenty of activities to keep the kids busy.

As well as the entertainment options there is a selection of stunning walks through the surrounding forest for guests to wander through before, before heading back for an evening of cosy relaxation.

There’s also a brand new dog-friendly cafe on the site so you can bring your furry friends as well.

The Wild Boar Cafe is open in Whitemead Forest Park and features both indoor and outdoor patio seating, complete with water bowls and dog biscuit bowls to ensure all guests, furry or otherwise, feel at home.

If you fancy travelling slightly further afield you could check out the nearby Perrygrove Railway just two miles from the Park.

Described on Tripadvisor as a “hidden gem” this tourist attraction offers plenty of fun for adults and kids alike.

From miniature trains to railway rides that wind through the forest and even treetop adventures, Perrygrove Railway is the perfect day out – and those who have visited agree.

“This is a fantastic site. As a miniature railway enthusiast I really appreciated the trains! But as a grandfather, I wish I had a grandchild with me!” one person wrote on Tripadvisor.

“The outdoor play areas are fab and so is the indoor village,” another said. “Lots of spaces for imaginative play/hide and seek/tag etc and you can hop on the trains as often as many times as you like!”
