Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off! podcast has been recognised for an outstanding first season on the airwaves by being nominated for sports podcast of the year by the British Podcast Awards on a six-strong shortlist.
The podcast, which started last summer and then produced daily, cutting-edge episodes during the Euros, is hosted by Football Editor Ian Ladyman and Premier League-winning striker Chris Sutton, and is joined on the shortlist by the likes of Jimmy Anderson’s Tailenders cricket show and The Rest Is Football, hosted by Gary Lineker.
Jamie East, the Mail’s Head of Podcasts, said: ‘I’m delighted that the team’s hard work has been recognised by the BPA. Ian and Chris’s rapport, insight and often frankly jaw-dropping analysis has quickly become part of every discerning footy fan’s podcast playlist and I can’t wait for everyone to hear where the new season takes us!’
Ladyman added: ‘This is a huge thrill for me given the quality and sheer size of the sports podcast market.
‘Chris and I walked in to this project blind just a year ago and to receive this nomination so quickly is testimony to the hard work, enthusiasm and talent of our producer Henry Williams, our head of podcast Jamie East and everybody at Mail Sport. The only drawback is that I may have to sit with Chris at the awards night. Don’t I do this enough already?’
It’s All Kicking Off! will return at the start of the football season in August with twice-weekly episodes, available on Spotify, Apple, Amazon or wherever you get your podcasts.
