Major disruption at busy London station after overhead wire damage

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have unveiled five new destinations to their flight roster.

From summer next year they will be adding Poros, Aegina and Leros in Greece to their roster.

Tallinn in Estonia will be added in winter 2025, while Palermo in Italy will join their schedule in summer 2026.

A points failure between Shepherds Bush and and Willesden Junction / Watford Junction has happened for a second time, blocking all lines in the area just as services were recovering from the last incident.

Repairs are ongoing but passengers face cancellations or delays of around half an hour.

The disruption to Southern and London Overground services could now last until 3pm.

Here’s the situation on the Tube right now:

• Metropolitan line: Severe delays between Baker Street and Aldgate due to an earlier faulty train at Finchley road. Minor delays on the rest of the line
• Piccadilly line: No service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge due to poor rail conditions caused by significant leaf fall. Minor delays between Acton town and Rayners Lane due to shortage of trains

The rest of the London Underground is running a good service.

During a routine inspection overnight on Tuesday, embankment damage was found between Polesworth and Atherstone.

Network Rail engineers are on site and working hard to assess the scale of the damage, monitor the situation and put a plan in place to complete the necessary repairs.

Currently, one of the two southbound lines between Tamworth and Nuneaton is closed.

Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 20 minutes.

Disruption is expected to continue until at least the end of the day on Friday (December 6).

It’s impacting the following routes:

• Avanti West Coast between Edinburgh / Glasgow Central / Lancaster / Blackpool North / Preston / Manchester Piccadilly / Liverpool Lime Street / Holyhead / Chester / Wrexham General and London Euston
• London Northwestern Railway between Crewe and Rugby / Northampton / London Euston

The storm could have a big impact on rail and road travel, with amber warnings for wind in place.

The emergency services are currently dealing with an incident near the railway between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.

All lines are blocked and trains running between the two stations are facing cancellations or delays of up to 40 minutes.

The disruption to West Midlands Railway and Transport for Wales services is expected to last until about 2pm.

The M606 has partially reopened northbound after a vehicle fire this morning blocked the road.

There is still one lane closed between junction 1 for the M62 and junction 3 near Bradford.

National Highways is warning drivers to allow extra time for their journey.

There’s been a signal fault near Wolverhampton which is disrupting all services running between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street.

On top of that, there’s a fault on a train which is disrupting West Midlands Railway services in the same area.

Those incidents combined are creating delays of up to half an hour, with cancellations possible – and this disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.

• West Midlands Railway between Wolverhampton and Walsall / Rugeley Trent Valley

All lines are blocked between Shepherds Bush and Willesden Junction / Watford Junction after a points failure.

Trains could be delayed or cancelled and the disruption is expected to last until 11.30am.

It’s impacting all London Overground and Southern services which run in the area.

The Piccadilly line is still partially closed due to leaves on the line, but here are the latest updates elsewhere:

• Metropolitan line: Severe delays between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge / Watford / Chesham / Amersham due to an earlier faulty train at Finchley road. Minor delays on the rest of the line
• Mildmay line (London Overground): No service between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction while we fix a points failure at Shepherds Bush
• Piccadilly line: No service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge due to poor rail conditions caused by significant leaf fall

There are several routes affected by the overhead electric wire damage near St Pancras this morning:

• East Midlands Railway between Lincoln / Sheffield / Nottingham / Corby / Kettering and London St Pancras International
• Thameslink between Bedford and Three Bridges / East Grinstead / Horsham / Brighton / Rainham
• Thameslink between Luton and Elephant & Castle / Gillingham / Rainham / Orpington
• Thameslink between St Albans and Sutton

Follow the route marked with the solid triangle symbol on local road signs:

• From the A34 southbound, leave at the Botley interchange
• At the roundabout, use the 3rd exit and join the A420
• Continue for approximately 5 miles, to the A338 roundabout
• Use the 1st exit and join the A338
• Follow the A338 for approximately 9 miles into Wantage
• At the A417 (Seesen Way) T junction turn left and continue for approximately 5 miles to a roundabout at Rowstock
• Take the first exit from the roundabout on to the A4130
• Follow the A4130 for 2 miles to the Milton Interchange
• At the Milton Interchange roundabout take the fourth exit to rejoin the A34 southbound

The M606 is closed northbound between junction 1 for the M62 and 3 for Bradford due to a vehicle fire.

The fire service is in attendance – and National Highways are in the process of releasing traffic past the fire in lane 3.

Traffic is being diverted past local routes.

The A34 is currently closed southbound after a crash between three lorries.

The closure is between the Marcham Road Interchange for Abingdon and Witney, and the Milton Interchange for Chilton, Milton, Didcot and Wantage.

Two of the lorries were very badly damaged in the crash, and shed their loads over the road.

Police and highways officers are at the scene, but it’s expected the road will need to be closed for ‘a protracted period’ while clean-up and recovery takes place.

• Elizabeth line: Severe delays between Paddington and Heathrow and Reading while we fix faulty track in the Acton Main Line area
• Metropolitan line: Severe delays between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Aldgate while we fix a faulty train
• Bakerloo line: Minor delays between Queen’s Park and Elephant & Castle due to an earlier faulty train
• Piccadilly line: No service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge due to poor rail conditions caused by significant leaf fall

A trespasser on the tracks near Portsmouth Harbour forced all lines running between Portsmouth & Southsea and Fratton to close earlier this morning.

Lines have now fully reopepned, but residual delays could still impact your journey.

It’s impacting Southern, Great Western Railway, and South Western Railway services which run un the area.

There’s been an operational incident between Eaglescliffe and Middlesborough, which is forcing trains to be cancelled or delayed by up to 40 minutes.

There aren’t any details about the nature of the incident yet, which is affecting Northern and TransPennine Express services.

The A1M is currently blocked northbound between junction 57 and 58 for Darlington.

There’s been a crash and the emergency services are at the scene.

A diversion route has been put in place by National Highways, following the solid diamond symbol:

• Exit the A1M at J57 Barton Interchange eastbound onto the A66M to Blackwell roundabout
• Continue across the roundabout onto the A66 eastbound and follow to Blands Corner roundabout
• Take the first exit onto the A67 and follow north to the roundabout onto the B6280 and follow north to the junction with the A68
• Join the A68 northbound and follow to the A1M J58 Birtree Interchange
• Re-join the A1M at J58
