Major UK airport issues update and announces new routes and flights

Must read

When it comes to travelling it can be pretty stressful to get from A to B.

Especially when it comes to doing the final check if you have your passport, boarding pass and travel documents.

However, travellers who live in the UK capital may want to make note as one London airport has issued an update for customers.

Luckily, the capital has a whole host of airports to choose from including London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Southend and of course, City Airport.

But those who plan to fly from and are familiar with London City Airport have some good news.

The airport, which was ranked by consumer brand Which? as the best airport in London last year and second-best in the UK has announced it will be expanding the number of flights it runs.

Earlier this week the Government approved plans to capacity at the airport by a staggering 2.5 million yearly passengers.

And that’s not all as the City Aiport will also be able to run three extra morning flights to take off on weekdays.

It marks one of the first big decisions made by the Labour Government on infrastructure in London since they came into power last month.

London City Airport has a limit on when it can operate on weekdays and weekends with the Saturday and Sunday services staying in place.

The expansion is part of the airport’s plan to increase its yearly passenger capacity from 6.5 million to nine million by 2031.

Despite the increase not everyone is happy about the news. Newham Council initially rejected plans for the expansion last July over climate concerns and noise in the borough.

Meanwhile, the airport came under fire after reports found that one in four flights left the base with more than half-empty seats in the first half of 2023.

The airport flies to over 30 destinations including Amsterdam, Belfast, Barcelona, Luxembourg, Rome, Split and Zurich.

This comes as London City Airport introduced new security scanners and dropped the 100ml liquid rule from its East London base.
