Meghan Markle’s ‘three key mistakes’ exposed following Nigeria trip

Must read

A style expert has pinpointed Meghan Markle‘s three fashion “misses” during her Nigeria trip earlier this month which “felt like they didn’t quite fit” with her overall appearance.

The Duchess of Sussex joined her husband Prince Harry as they visited the West African nation for three days to champion mental health initiatives for soldiers and empower young people as they celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Meghan graced fans with several new outfits during the “unofficial royal tour” but there were three that did not quite “hit the spot,” according to an expert.

Megan Watkins, Head Stylist at online fashion destination SilkFred, said that while Meghan showcased “many interesting and stunning looks” there were two which “felt like they didn’t quite fit with the rest of her tour wardrobe”.

She told The Express: “From the moment Harry and Meghan began their tour in Nigeria, and we saw Meghan wearing a sleeveless earth-toned dress from Californian designer Heidi Merrick and a gold collar necklace reminiscent of a necklace that her late mother-in-law, Diana, also wore on a trip to Nigeria, we knew that she was going to give us some serious fashion inspiration with constant nods to more traditional styles.”

“Throughout the trip, Meghan showcased her love for feminine silhouettes, with shoulder-baring styles and flowing skirts. We also saw her experiment with prints, which is a deviation from her normal personal style.”

She said overall the Duchess’s wardrobe showed her “signature classic style, penchant for sentimentality and ability to mix modern and traditional items.”

But the style expert added: “However, outfits such as a white power suit that she wore to meet the Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa at the Defence Headquarters in the heart of Abuja and the palm-printed maxi dress she wore to a volleyball match at Nigeria Unconquered – although nice pieces on their own – felt like they didn’t quite fit with the rest of her tour wardrobe.

On Day 1 of the trip, Meghan donned a white power suit by Altuzarra to visit the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, while on Day 2 she sported the Tropicana dress by Johanna Ortiz.

Meanwhile, Ms Watkins also pinpointed another fashion faux-pas – her shoe choice during two appearances while touring the country.

She explained: “In terms of fashion faux-pas, the only small issue would be the sandals she wore to the volleyball match at Nigeria Unconquered and another pair at the Nigeria Unconquered game at the Lagos Polo Club.

“Although she is in a warm country, a closed-toe shoe is always preferable for these royal engagements.”

“Overall, Meghan gave us many interesting and stunning looks, both through her clothes and jewellery, that we can use for our own summer fashion inspiration.”
