In the days leading up to a holiday, the excitement is at an all-time high, but with more airlines imposing strict hand luggage and hold baggage restrictions, packing can be a headache. If you’re packing for the whole family, it can be even tricker to ensure you have everything without ending up with a bag that’s bulging at the seams or weighing in over the allotted amount.
However, a savvy mum showed how she is able to organise all of her children’s clothes and ensure she doesn’t over- or under-pack for a holiday with the help of ziplock bags.
Posting a video to TikTok, mum Sierra Honeycutt showed how she makes use of ziplock bags to plan outfits for her little ones. She folds each outfit into a bag and labels the bag with the day of the week to ensure her children have the right amount of clothes for each day.
Not only does the tip help her to ensure she remains organised for each day of their stay, but the ziplock bags can also help to reduce space taken up.
Press down on the bag to push all of the air out before sealing them. This works a lot like a vacuum pack bag, condensing the space the items take up.
It seems Sierra isn’t the only mum who has put the hack to the test though. One mum commented on her video saying: “This is my number one thing when packing for my twins! That way Daddy can help them get ready without a million questions about what goes with what.”
A second added: “I’ve done this for 19 years and it works great!”
Others described the hack as simply “genius”.
Megan Watkins, Head Stylist at SilkFred, listed the tip among some of her top space-savings hacks. She explained: “This is a super-savvy way to pack clothes for your kids, especially if they are old enough to want to dress themselves.
“Even if you are going away for longer than a week I would suggest still packing for seven days. It’s pretty likely your accommodation will have cleaning services which you can utilise. This will help cut down on how much room clothes take in your suitcase.”
Avoiding over-packing means that you can also curb any unexpected fees at the airport, with some budget carriers charging as much as £60 at the check-in desk for oversized luggage.
Of course, the best way to ensure you avoid excess luggage fees is by understanding the baggage allowance allocated to your ticket.
