Watford Borough Council have completed two key infrastructure projects to enhance the town’s cycling and walking facilities…
The final section of the Bridle Path improvement works, from St Albans Road to Watford Junction Station, is now complete. Key upgrades include a new cycle tray and anti-skid surfacing on the steps, improving accessibility and safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
This follows last year’s enhancements, which included refurbishing hoarding, applying anti-graffiti coating, removing old timber posts, repainting street furniture, improving lighting, resurfacing the path, trimming vegetation, and refreshing crossings near the station.
Additionally, in collaboration with Hertfordshire County Council, five new cycle repair stations have been installed at key locations including: Met Station, Cassiobury Park Avenue, Cassiobury Park car park, Vicarage Road precinct, opposite Lower High Street Station, and KGV Playing Fields (next to Watford Cycle Hub). These stations are equipped with essential tools for minor repairs, promoting safe and convenient cycling.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “The completion of these projects represents our ongoing work to improving Watford’s infrastructure for both cyclists and pedestrians. These improvements will not only increase safety and accessibility, but also encourage more residents to choose active and sustainable modes of transportation.”
Cllr Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said: “These improvements are part of our wider strategy to support active travel in Watford. By making cycling and walking more accessible and safer, we are not only promoting healthier lifestyles but also reducing traffic congestion and environmental impact.”
As the world continues to tackle climate change, initiatives like this will play an increasingly important role in building sustainable communities.
