Airline Norwegian has announced new flights from a major London airport to Norway, giving British tourists an exciting new way to see the Northern Lights.

A new route between London Gatwick to Harstad-Narvik Airport in Northern Norway has been launched and seats are now on sale for the weekly service, which will start on November 2, just in time for the winter season.

“We’ve been eager to announce this new route between London Gatwick Airport and Harstad-Narvik Airport in Evenes,” said Magnus Thome Maursund, the Chief Commercial Officer at Norwegian.

He added: “Northern Norway attracts thousands of visitors to experience the Northern Lights and beautiful Arctic wilderness.

“The launch of this new route also connects residents of Northern Norway to England’s bustling capital, London, in under four hours.”

Harstad-Narvik Airport is a gateway to some of Northern Norway’s most stunning locations, including the Lofoten Islands.

Vegeir Selboe, the Marketing Manager in Destination Lofoten, said: “Evenes serves as the gateway to the stunning beauty of the Lofoten region, the international ski resort Narvikfjellet, the unique whale experiences in Vesterålen, and much more.”

The route is expected to boost year-round tourism and provide a convenient travel option for locals.

“These new routes will provide easier access to this region’s natural beauty and extraordinary attractions,” Selboe added.

The winter season is ideal for travellers hoping to witness the Northern Lights under cold, clear skies.

Alongside natural wonders, Harstad-Narvik is set to become a prime destination for winter sports, with Narvik recently being named the host city for the 2029 FIS Alpine World Cup Ski Championships.

“Narvik sits inside the Arctic circle and offers a unique skiing experience with amazing vistas of fjords,” Maursund said.

In other good news, British Airways will also soon launch their own flights to Tromsø – another great place to see the Northern Lights.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, said: “We are excited to welcome Tromsø to our route network – it is a growing winter leisure market thanks to its abundance of cold-weather activities.”
