If you don’t fancy ringing in the New Year in the freezing dark of the UK’s winter, then you’re in luck – you could fly to a gorgeous island with stunning beaches for less than £200.
Sardinia in Italy is known as the ‘Maldives of Europe’, known for its beautiful beaches – many of which have featured on numerous ‘best beaches’ lists.
In the last year searches for Sardinia have seen a 12% increase, and with 1.5 million searches in the last month alone, it looks to be a destination many people are looking to visit.
This year, travel booking website, OMIO, has found that December 31 is the cheapest date to travel to Sardinia if you want to celebrate the New Year on one of Europe’s most beautiful islands.
If you decide to bring in the New Year on the island, there’s plenty going on.
With the tagline of “New Year’s Eve 2025 in Sardinia, a whole other music!”, the regional department of tourism has decided to focus on a mix of live events and breathtaking scenery to convince tourists and residents to choose Sardinia for the last night of the year.
Across the island there will be events showcasing music and celebrating the New Year. Five “big” cities such as Cagliari, Sassari, Alghero, Castelsardo and Olbia have won the role of being the main centres for entertainment, while another 12 Municipalities complete the map of the party, reports local news site L’Unione Sarda.
The highlight of the evening on December 31 will see Italian songstress Gianna Nannini on stage in Sassari while Cagliari is preparing for a memorable night with the unmistakable rhythm of Stewart Copeland, the legendary drummer of the Police.
A few kilometers from the capital, Iglesias will offer a New Year’s Eve full of energy with rock band Le Vibrazioni and dance/electronic musical group Il Pagante.
Amid the festivities, when flight prices tend to be far higher than usual, you could bag yourself a week on the Italian island for just £117.
To secure this bargain price, you’ll be flying out of London Stanstead Airport on December 31, landing at Cagliari Elmas Airport, and returning via the same routes on January 7.
