Newcastle hope Kieran Trippier will return for the final three matches of the season to aid their European push, and that will be good news for England ahead of Euro 2024.

Mail Sport understands the 33-year-old — sidelined for two months with a calf injury – is currently in Dubai, where he is working with a physio and fitness coach.

Trippier was injured during the 3-0 win over Wolves on March 2 and was expected to play after the international break later that month. However, he suffered a setback and his return date was put back to the game at Crystal Palace last week.

When he then missed the 2-0 defeat at Selhurst Park, there was a fear among supporters his season could be over.

However, we can reveal there is confidence that Trippier will feature when Newcastle entertain Brighton a week on Saturday, with away games at Manchester United and Brentford to follow before the season’s end.

He will not be involved at Burnley on Saturday but is set to return to training next week, with a strong hope of him making the squad for the final home game versus the Seagulls.

That would be a huge boost for Eddie Howe, whose side have maintained a push for European football with four wins from the last six matches. They are currently seventh, one point behind Man United in sixth.

Trippier’s expected return will also be noted by Gareth Southgate, with the defender among the leading contenders to start at left back for England this summer.
