Team GB athletes and medal hopes

More gripping drama can be expected as Andy Murray and Dan Evans are expected to return to men’s doubles action in the tennis at Roland Garros, fresh from saving five match points on their way to an opening win on Sunday – extending Murray’s final farewell from the sport.

The triathlon has been a big talking point over the opening few days of the Games, with concerns that the swimming legs of both the men’s and women’s events might have to be cancelled due to poor water quality in the River Seine. Should it start as scheduled, Team GB’s Alex Yee – sliver winner at Tokyo – will be hoping to get in among the medals again.

Sky Sports senior reporter Geraint Hughes explains how there is a race against time for the Paris Olympics organisers to make a call about the cleanliness of the River Seine and whether it will be clean enough to stage the triathlon.

In the pool, Britain have a great chance of gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, having won at Tokyo three years ago as well as taking the world title in 2023. Tom Dean, James Guy, Matt Richards and Duncan Scott are the four going for gold from 9pm.

With the men’s team only just missing out on medalling in Gymnastics team event on Monday, see if Team GB’s women can earn a place on the podium in an immensely competitive field that will include the United States and Simone Biles.

We’ve put our Olympic correspondents Geraint Hughes and Miriam Walker Khan to the test with quite possibly one of the weirdest Olympic quiz’s ever.

There’s the men’s trap shooting final, which sees Tokyo bronze medallist Matthew Coward-Holley and 2022 world silver medallist Nathan Hales going for gold, while there’s also the women’s -63kg final in the judo which Britain’s Lucy Renshall will be hoping to qualify for.

Freestyle BMX begins with qualifiers featuring Britain’s Kieran Reilly and Charlotte Worthington, while canoe slalom heats get underway, with Joe Clarke, gold medal winner at Rio 2016, and Mallory Franklin, silver medallist at Tokyo, hoping to be in contention once more.

Elsewhere, Team GB compete in day one of the dressage event, while in the women’s rugby sevens will be looking for a strong finish to their competition after a quarter-final exit to the United States on Monday evening.
